Are Earthquakes and Tsunamis a Sign of the Last Days?

Three Mega Earthquakes in 15 Months
It seems like the earth has been convulsing ever more frequently in the last few years. Jesus told His disciples that “in various places there will be famines and earthquakes” in the time leading up to the Day of the Lord (Matthew 24:7). When I was young (1950s), an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 or greater on the Richter Scale was considered to be “earth shattering news.” It just didn’t happen often, or at least wasn’t as well reported. Yet this century, which is only ten years old, has already seen 154 earthquakes of magnitude 7.0 or greater. Twelve have been greater than 8.0, and two have been 9.0.1 (Note: the U.S.G.S . replaced the Richter Scale with the Moment Magnitude Scale – MMS in the 1970s.)
The fact that we have had three major earthquakes in the last 15 months leads many to question if these are a sign of the Last Days. To those who understand Biblical prophecy, there is no question that we are getting closer to the end times.
But are these things the fulfillment of Biblical prophecy?
